Why Have A Colonic?
People have colon hydrotherapy for a wide range of reasons. Some are looking for relief from the symptoms of IBS and other gastro-intestinal problems such as bloating, constipation or diarrhea, while others simply want to maintain and improve their digestive health and enjoy the fresh, light feeling and enhanced energy levels that often comes from the treatment.
Even with the best will in the world, few of us eat as healthily as we should, or do enough exercise. Unfortunately, our bodies simply aren’t designed for this sedentary lifestyle fuelled by processed and refined foods full of chemically synthesised ingredients. Inevitably, this upsets the natural way your digestive system works, leading to a range of negative effects on your health, from digestion and bowel problems, to lethargy and headaches.

How a colonic can help
Colon hydrotherapy works with your body, helping to return your digestive system to a more natural, healthy state. The gentle flow of water works in two ways: first it cleans out waste matter in the colon, and second it stimulates the natural nerve and muscle action of the bowels to encourage proper bowel function.
Unlike an enema, colon hydrotherapy, combined with gentle abdominal massage from your therapist, can reach the full length of the large intestine, ensuring a thorough cleanse and the maximum benefit.
Benefits beyond the bowel
Colon Hydrotherapy gives many people a sensation of overall well-being and energy and it’s often the inspiration for a healthier diet and lifestyle all round.
What’s more, since your digestive system is closely linked with the rest of your body's functions, the therapy may also help you with headaches, allergies and acne, and improve mental and physical sluggishness. And when you feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside, bringing out your natural beauty through clearer skin and brighter eyes.
Who are colonics for?
Our professional therapists do not make exaggerated claims about ‘curing’ digestive problems. However, experience shows us that colonics can provide relief from the symptoms of a wide range of digestive disorders, including IBS, constipation, bloating and gas. Many of our clients find that colonics offer help where modern medicine has failed, especially where symptoms have been dismissed under the catch-all diagnosis of IBS.
However, colon hydrotherapy is not just for digestive problems, it can also work to keep your bowels healthy, in the same way that visiting the gym can help keep you fit.
Young or old, male or female, healthy or suffering, colon hydrotherapy is for almost everyone from all walks of life. However, there are some circumstances in which the treatment is not recommended.
Who shouldn’t have colonics?
There are a few people who are advised not to have colon hydrotherapy, such as people who have had certain types of recent surgery or who currently suffer from:
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Strangulated abdominal or inguinal hernias
Fissures or fistulas
Kidney failure / insuffiency
Bowel or rectal cancer
Colitis / Crohns disease
GI haemorrhage / perforation
You are also advised not to have a colonic if you think you may be pregnant.
